Architectural Model Builder Summer Intern
ZGF is seeking an Architectural Model Builder Intern to join our team in the Washington, D.C office. We are looking for creative, motivated, and curious design talent with a passion for architecture and the built environment. We are offering an internship position within the Design Shop for an individual who will work under the direction of experienced shop staff on a diversity of project opportunities. If you have a passion and a desire to exercise your design and build skills, we are interested in talking with you.
Please note, we are currently on a hybrid schedule working both in-office and remote as needed; this is not a fully remote position.
The current hourly rate for all interns at ZGF is $26.00/hour.
As an Architectural Model Builder Intern, you will…
- Be part of a community focused on design excellence and innovation
- Collaborate with design and build teams in the making of basic types of architectural models and prototypes
- Learn and work under the direction of experienced design and shop staff to help develop design ideas to life
- Work independently on smaller projects or smaller builds
- Assist with general digital modeling and physical fabrication
- Learn the use of shop equipment, including the laser cutter, 3D printer, and various hand and power tools
- Explore digital fabrication techniques and material use in fabrication
- Engage with design and build teams on problem solving
- Learn Revit, Rhino, and 3D modeling programs
- Deepen your fundamentals and skills working on a spectrum of projects throughout the internship
Qualifications:
- Applicants should be enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program with a focus in Architecture, Architecture Technology, or related field
- Professional experience is beneficial but not required – creative curiosity is required
- Basic understanding of architectural model making and prototyping
- Basic understanding of tools and techniques used in fabrication
- Basic understanding of digital modeling programs used in fabrication and design
- Communication and shop skills to contribute to the design and build teams’ efforts in a significant way
- Experience working on Rhino is a plus.
