Position:      Architectural Designer (Architectural Intern)

Location:  Seattle, Washington and Washington, DC (remote work within commuting distance permitted Fridays)

Duties:        

  1. Assist in meeting building performance goals, including metrics verification, and design integration (10%).
  2. Contribute to the effective performance of the Architectural Project Team with regard to project quality, schedule, and budget (5%).
  3. Coordinate the execution of Construction Administration responsibilities and project close-out (3%).
  4. Utilize knowledge of the architectural and engineering components of a building and how they function to independently prepare architectural designs (15%).
  5. Independently analyze and address technical and design intent requirements for project to independently evaluate, select, and apply advanced architectural techniques, procedures, and criteria (5%).
  6. Analyze design intent for projects, and based on analysis, ensure design and construction documents comply with design integrity through all project phases (5%).
  7. Independently develop design concepts; independently develop technical details on projects using design expertise (10%).
  8. Use independent judgement to produce design drawings, presentation drawings and computer and physical models using computer-aided design (REVIT and Bluebeam) software and 3D Visualization and Rendering software (15%).
  9. Develop Project Specifications, schedules, and construction documents for new structures or renovation projects applying knowledge of advanced structural and site design, construction procedures, zoning and building codes, and building materials (2%).
  10. Independently review and verify completed reports, plans, estimates and calculations for technical and design intent compliance, and issue modifications to documentation (10%).
  11. Independently review and verify shop drawings and submittals for technical and design intent (3%).
  12. Interface with clients to understand and develop the program and the design (2%).
  13. Review work product of less experienced staff members to effectively utilize their efforts on projects and structure work for others on a limited basis, and work independently and collaboratively with Project Team toward design solutions (5%).
  14. Present solutions in-house and to others as required (10%).
  • Up to 5% domestic travel required per project needs.

Salary from:   $88,400 to $106,400 / year (Seattle, Washington)

                        $96,221 to $105,341 / year (Washington, D.C)

Education:  Bachelor's degree in Architecture or a closely related field (foreign equivalent accepted), and

Experience: Five years post-bachelor's progressive experience as an Architectural Designer, Architectural Intern, Architectural Professional, or similar position.

OR

Education:  Master of Architecture degree or closely related field (foreign equivalent accepted); and

Experience: Three years experience as an Architectural Designer, Architectural Intern, Architectural Professional, or similar position.

Skills/Requirements:  

  1. 3 years' professional experience with Revit, 3D Max, SketchUp, Rhino, Vray Rendering, and Bluebeam.
  2. 3 years' experience preparing architectural plans (construction documents, elevations, sections, and details) and renderings.
  3. 2 years' experience collaborating with junior team members on projects (preparation of architectural plans, construction documents, elevations, sections, details and renderings).
  4. Professional experience (any) with institutional, research / laboratory, corporate and commercial projects.
  5. Professional experience (any) with energy-efficient design.
  6. Submission of portfolio containing all of the following: A) samples of at least two (2) sets of photo-realistic renderings of institutional, research / laboratory, corporate and commercial projects suitable for use by an architectural firm (at least 4 renderings total), and B) Sample Construction Documents (plans, elevations, details and section drawings) for at least four (4) different professional projects.
  • Employment will be contingent upon passing reference check and a background check.
